What is Health Governace
Governance is a sum of the many ways individuals and institutions, manage their common affairs to achieve a common good. Health governance refers to structures and processes designed to ensure accountability, transparency, responsiveness, rule of law, stability, equity and inclusiveness, empowerment, and broad-based participation; in the achievement of the highest attainable standard of care for every individual.
At AHGI, we recognize that a multiplicity of players and factors defines the state of governance, which in turn is central to strengthening health systems. We believe that health governance is the linchpin of effective and sustainable healthcare systems. Good health governance provides the framework through which healthcare organizations and institutions can operate efficiently, aligning strategies with societal needs.
Our purpose, is to partner with health institutions, organisations and governments, to ensure integration of robust governance practices, that strengthen accountability, foster innovation, and optimize resource allocation; which in turn, translates to improved healthcare delivery, enhanced patient outcomes, and ultimately, healthier communities.

Our Strategic Direction
At the African Health Governance Institute, our strategic direction is defined by our mission, whose core is to transform health systems in Africa to achieve optimal health outcomes for all. We collaborate with a diverse range of professionals to strengthen health governance in key aspects of healthcare delivery, such as health policy, financing, health information management and communication for health. At the centre of our strategic approach is the belief that it is not how much you invest in a health, but how effective the governance systems in place are, to extract maximum utility from the resources invested.
